According to the report, which examined drug-related arrests and seizures made by the WSP in 2021, Spokane County was responsible for 41% of methamphetamine seizures, 37% of heroin seizures, and 34% of fentanyl seizures in the state.

With 1,038 drug arrests per 100,000 residents, Spokane County also has the highest rate of drug arrests per capita, followed by Yakima County (823 arrests per 100,000 citizens).
The research also disclosed the rising prevalence and lethality of fentanyl, a synthetic opioid 50–100 times more strong than morphine, in Washington. In 2021, fentanyl contributed to 58% of all opioid overdose deaths, a rise from 36%.
Overdosing is more likely when fentanyl is combined, frequently without the user’s awareness, with other narcotics like heroin, cocaine, or fake pills. In 2021, the WSP found 6,632 fentanyl pills—a 2,066 percent increase.
