This Town in Georgia Has Been Named the Most Violent Town in the State

According to the most recent FBI crime statistics, the most dangerous municipality in Georgia is Eastman, a tiny village in Dodge County with a population of around 5,000 people.

What drives Eastman’s violence?

Eastman’s violent crime rate is 916 per 100,000 population, more than four times the national average of 367. Murder, rape, robbery, and aggravated assault are all considered violent crimes. Eastman also has a high property crime rate of 3,925 per 100,000 population, nearly double the national average of 2,110. Burglary, larceny, and motor vehicle theft are all types of property crimes.

The causes behind Eastman’s high crime rates are unknown, although some potential variables include poverty, unemployment, drug misuse, and gang involvement. According to the United States Census Bureau, Eastman’s poverty rate is 32.4%, more than double the state average of 14.3%.

Eastman’s unemployment rate is 6.7%, greater than the statewide average of 4.5%. The drug overdose fatality rate in Dodge County, which includes Eastman, is 18.9 per 100,000 persons, higher than the state average of 15.8. Eastman has a history of gang violence, with multiple gang-related shootings and killings in recent years.

How does Eastman cope with the violence?

Eastman’s government and citizens are working to counteract the violence while also improving the town’s safety and quality of life. The Eastman Police Department has enhanced patrols, investigations, and community engagement to prevent and solve crimes. The police department collaborates with various local, state, and federal authorities to identify and apprehend violent criminals and narcotics traffickers.

The municipality also includes various programs and efforts to assist youngsters, the elderly, and vulnerable people. For example, the Eastman-Dodge County Chamber of Commerce hosts an annual event called “Back to School Bash” that gives free school supplies, health exams, and entertainment to kids and their families.
