Salmonella Symptoms

Salmonella is a bacterium capable of causing severe and, at times, life-threatening infections, particularly in vulnerable populations such as young children, the elderly, and individuals with compromised immune systems, as per the FDA.

Indications of salmonella poisoning encompass:

  • Bloody diarrhea or diarrhea persisting beyond three days without improvement
  • Diarrhea accompanied by a fever exceeding 102 degrees Fahrenheit
  • Excessive vomiting, particularly if it hinders fluid retention
  • Manifestations of dehydration, including dry mouth and throat, reduced urine frequency, and dizziness upon standing
  • Abdominal cramps

These symptoms typically manifest between six hours and six days post-exposure.

While most individuals recover within four to seven days, those with weakened immune systems, including children under 5 and adults over 65, may encounter more severe symptoms necessitating medical intervention or hospitalization.
