The O’Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and the Regional Medical Center of Central Alabama (RMCCA) Campus are putting on a Wear Blue Day Community Health Fair on Thursday, March 21. This is to raise awareness about colorectal cancer. From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., the event will take place at 29 L. V. Stabler Dr., Greenville.

A Fun Walk with a “Survivor” and/or “In Memory of” display board, as well as a Question and Answer Session, will be part of the health fair. The Commissioners Pit Food Truck will also be on campus for lunch, and a part of the sales will go to the RMCCA Healthy Circle.

Evangelist Carolyn Griffin from Warrior Ministries was excited about the event. Griffin is known for leading prayer events in the community.

Griffin said, “As we continue our prayer initiative, we thought this would be a great chance to pray for survivors and their families as well as raise awareness and stop this from happening again.” We’ll pray for everyone, but our main hope is that people will do the screenings and take care of the house that God gave us.

Director of Business Development at Regional Medical Center David Norell talked about how important the event was and said that this is the second time the center has held it.

“We will have some local vendors as well as the Q&A seminars…” Norell said, “Comfort Care and other home health agencies are businesses that help with healthcare events.” “We just want people to know that this can be treated if caught early, and screenings are easy to get.”

The American Cancer Society says that people with a normal chance of getting cancer should start getting screened at age 45 and keep doing so until they are 75 years old.

The goal of the community health fair is to make more people aware of how important it is to get regular checkups and find cancer early. People who are taking part and attending can look forward to a day full of learning, support, prayer, and remembering.
