In an earlier incident, Corey Antwon Thompson, 45, was caught and charged in connection with the terrible shooting and murder of Army veteran Roderick Butler, 46, in Uptown Dallas. Thompson was arrested on Tuesday, December 26, 2023, following the event on December 20, 2023.

Thompson was apprehended on Bickers Street, near N. Hampton Road. Notably, at the time of his arrest, he was already out on bail from a previous arrest.

Thompson faces a murder charge in connection with the killing of Roderick Butler at a strip mall on McKinney Avenue and Pearl Street, according to the Dallas Police Department. Surveillance video showed the terrifying moment Thompson approached Butler and shot him in the face with an “assault-style rifle.”

The identity of the offender was revealed thanks to a brave woman who contacted the police to report a man matching Thompson’s description attempting to rob her.

Authorities tracked Thompson down thanks to her information, which included specifics about his car. This car had previously been linked to law enforcement contacts.

Roderick Butler’s relatives said that he had been homeless and had suffered from mental health concerns, but that he had just moved into an apartment in Dallas and looked to be on the mend. They expressed satisfaction that an arrest about the unfortunate tragedy had been made.

Authorities have not revealed the reason for the murder, leaving many questions unanswered as the investigation continues.

There is also a possible link between Thompson and another murder case in Balch Springs that occurred on Christmas Day.

A guy was discovered shot and died in his automobile in that instance, and a suspect vehicle matching Thompson’s white Lincoln was allegedly implicated. Thompson has been designated as a “person of interest” in the Balch Springs inquiry.

Corey Antwon Thompson is now detained in the Dallas County Jail on a $1,250,000 bail. Notably, Thompson was freed on bail in May on charges of felony criminal mischief, minor assault, and domestic abuse.

More facts about the circumstances leading up to the Uptown Dallas shooting, as well as possible linkages to previous occurrences, may surface as the judicial procedures develop.
