Storm Track 3: It Will Get Cooler Over The Weekend, Which Will Make Storms More Likely

0

From now until Thursday, a low-pressure system in the high atmosphere will finally move out of the Southwest.

There is a chance of a few showers and thunderstorms near the state line between Kansas and Oklahoma, but Oklahoma is more likely to see most of them.

Kansas has been crossed by a weak front or wind change that is moving south. This is affecting where this upper-level low goes around our area. Lows overnight will be in the 30s to 40s.

Any rains on Thursday morning and afternoon will be along and to the east of the Turnpike, and they will only happen before you get off.

It will only be in the 60s across the state on Thursday. There won’t be much wind.

This Friday, there is another cold front. To the northeast of us, rain and snow are lined up. It might sprinkle a little closer to Wichita, but this system makes it hard to get any rain. With each cold front, the temperature drops even more.

It will be cool on Saturday, with highs in the 40s and 50s. It looks like most of today will stay dry until tomorrow morning. It might rain or snow a few times during the day, with snow farther north. There will be a stronger wave of scattered rain showers overnight that will move across Kansas from west to east.

If you live in southern Kansas, especially Southwest Kansas and the Oklahoma Panhandle, pay extra attention to the weather on Sunday. It starts in Colorado and moves through Colorado to Kansas. The return of moisture to the area is slow and not very deep. The chance of a strong storm might also be lowered by cloud cover from earlier rain.

Still, there is a window to the southwest where a few storms could get really bad until Sunday evening. There are still a lot of things that need to be worked out before Sunday.

Behind a strong cold front, cooler air will move in Sunday night. This will let the rain turn into snow farther north and west through Monday. It’s possible for snow to build up until early next week. It will also be cooler than usual for the first half of next week, with a small rise toward the end. It might rain some more next Wednesday and Thursday.
