Fast forward to Thursday night, when a strong upper-level low-pressure system strikes the region, bringing snow showers as early as the late evening hours. Snow will then develop heavier and more widespread overnight, lasting into early Friday. At this point in the game, it appears that snow may fall throughout Friday morning’s commute, so additional caution is advised. There will undoubtedly be gaps in the action in most places, but healthier accumulations are expected in areas with more continuous snowfall.

The accumulation forecast has not changed significantly in the last 24 hours. Most locations will receive one to three inches of snow, with higher totals likely in areas where no break in the action occurs. The current forecast predicts that the most snow will fall in Southern Wisconsin, with lower amounts expected throughout the Interstate 88 corridor and further south. Rain and sleet are likely to mix with the snow, significantly reducing snow accumulations.

Sunshine is expected to return on Saturday, although temperatures will remain low due to northerly and northeasterly breezes.

Our next weather system arrives Sunday, bringing a wintry mix Sunday night, rain and even some thunder Monday, and many showers lasting into Tuesday.
