A recall has been issued for over 580,000 beds, sold by various retailers, including Walmart and Wayfair, due to the potential risk of breaking, sagging, or collapsing during use, thereby posing a hazard for falls and resulting injuries. 

Home Design, the manufacturer of these beds, has received 128 reports of instances where the beds sagged, broke, or collapsed, leading to 36 reported injuries. 

The recall, disclosed in a notice by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission on January 18, pertains to approximately 527,000 beds sold in the US and around 56,000 units sold in Canada.

The affected products encompass various models and sizes of upholstered low-profile standard and platform beds manufactured by Home Design, based in Silver Lake, Indiana. 

Both Home Design and the CPSC strongly advise consumers with the recalled beds to cease using them immediately and to contact the company for complimentary replacement slats and side rails.

Consumers can verify if their bed is subject to the recall by consulting the list of affected models and their corresponding part numbers, available on both the CPSC’s recall notice published on Thursday and Home Design’s official website.

The recall encompasses the following products:

  • All Home Design Part number 80002 Tufted Upholstered Low Profile Standard Beds, featuring a gray, warm gray, or blue bed frame with standard supports requiring a box spring, available in twin, full, queen, and king sizes.
  • Part number 80032 Tufted Upholstered Low Profile Standard Beds, presenting a gray or beige bed frame with standard supports requiring a box spring, available in twin, full, queen, and king sizes.
  • Part number 80055 Tufted Upholstered Low Profile Standard Beds, showcasing a silver gray, gray, or black bed frame with standard supports requiring a box spring, available in king size.
  • Part number 80071 Tufted Upholstered Low Profile Platform Beds, featuring a gray, beige, or black bed frame with platform supports that do not necessitate a box spring, available in twin, full, queen, or king sizes.
  • Part number 80053 Tufted Upholstered Low Profile Platform Beds, presenting a warm gray bed frame with platform supports that do not require a box spring. It’s essential to note that part number 80053 lacks a center support leg halfway along the side rail.

To obtain the complimentary repair kit, consumers are required to email Home Design photographs of the bed or proof of purchase, along with the headboard’s “law label.”
