NYC Health + Hospitals today announced a massive recruitment push to fill nurse positions and extend access to community-based primary care in Harlem, Woodhull, and Lincoln. The Nurses4NYC recruitment effort aims to inspire more New Yorkers to apply for work as nurses in the healthcare system.

The campaign will be supplemented by social media ads. Interested applicants can learn more by visiting the Nurses4NYC website and applying here. Currently, the NYC Health + Hospital system employs about 9,600 full- and part-time nurses. The public health system provides a variety of benefits, including pensions.

New nurses can benefit from the Nurse Residency Program, nursing fellowships, tuition reimbursement, loan forgiveness, and scholarship programs offered by NYC Health + Hospitals.

“Nurses are at the heart of our mission to provide high-quality health services and compassionate care for all New Yorkers, and I am proud of the thousands of nurses who come to our facilities every day to serve New Yorkers in need,” said Natalia Cineas, DNP, RN, NEA-BC, FAAN, Senior Vice President, Chief Nursing Executive at NYC Health + Hospitals. ”

Being a nurse at NYC Health + Hospitals is more than simply a job or a career; our public health nurses play an important role in supporting the most vulnerable patients and communities. NYC Health + Hospitals aggressively encourages and promotes our vision of health equity as part of our overarching mission to help New Yorkers live the healthiest lives. As part of our mission, we are working hard to attract, maintain, and support a diverse and inclusive nursing workforce.”

Nurse Residency Program

The year-long residency program gives newly hired, first-time nurses with on-the-job training in areas such as ethics, decision making, clinical leadership, and the application of research-based evidence in practice. The program also offers assistance and mentorship to new nurses, which has been shown to improve happiness, performance, and retention.

Critical Care Nursing Fellowship

Beginning in 2024, NYC Health + Hospitals will offer an innovative Critical Care Nursing Fellowship to provide high-quality care to critically sick patients. This new Fellowship focuses on critical care in a variety of disciplines and includes simulation, didactic on-site experiences, clinical rotations in emergency, post-anesthesia care units, and telemetry/stepdown units, as well as an interactive and individualized learning experience.

Nursing Emergency Department Fellowship

This 22-week Emergency Department Nursing Fellowship Program is designed for nurses who have no prior clinical experience. The Emergency Department Nursing Fellowship Program enhances core nursing abilities to prepare fellows for safe patient care in a fast-paced emergency department.

NURSE Corps

For selected applicants, NURSE Corps pays for 60% of unpaid nursing education debt over two years, with the option to extend for another 25% of the original total. In exchange, applicants agree to work for two years at a qualified facility that is experiencing a serious shortage of nurses.

National Health Services Corps (For Nurse Practitioners)

The National Health Service Corps Loan Repayment Program allows primary care medical, dental, and mental and behavioral health care providers, including Nurse Practitioners, to have their student loans repaid in exchange for providing healthcare in eligible facilities with limited access to care.

Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program

All qualifying public service employees are eligible for student loan forgiveness under the federal government’s Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program. If you meet the program’s qualifications, your employment with NYC Health + Hospitals may qualify you for it.

And Many Other Benefits

NYC Health + Hospitals provides an amazing benefit package. New hires can choose from a range of medical plans, including MetroPlus Gold, HIP HMO, and GHI-CBP. As an employee, you are also eligible to participate in the NYC Employee Retirement System’s pension plan. Employees also receive discounts from vendors such as T-Mobile, Dell, Hertz, Edenred commuter advantages, and others.
