A moving business report says that Michigan is one of the states where people have moved out the most in the past year.

Report the Results

The study from United Van Lines said that 62% of the moves in Michigan were to other states in 2023, making it the fifth state with the most outbound moves. The study looked at more than two million household moves across the country and put them into two groups: inbound and outbound. This was based on where the moves came from and where they were going.

The study also talked about the main reasons why people moved to or from Michigan. The main reason people moved away was for work (46%), then family (25%), and finally retirement (19%). The main reason people moved in was also for work (50%), then family (24%), and finally living (13%).

Trends in the State

The study says that since 2010, Michigan has been one of the top ten states with the most moves out of the country. The U.S. Census Bureau says that since 2010, the number of people living in the state has dropped by more than 200,000.

The high unemployment rate, the decline of the auto industry, the cold weather, and the lack of job chances for young professionals are some of the reasons why people possibly left Michigan.

The State of Things

The study also showed how people were moving across the country in 2023. The 10 states with the most moves coming in were: Arkansas, Arizona, North Carolina, Tennessee, South Carolina, Oregon, South Dakota, and South Dakota. New Jersey, New York, Illinois, Connecticut, Michigan, California, Kansas, North Dakota, Massachusetts, and Ohio were the top 10 states with the most moves out of the country.

Based on the study, the main reasons people moved across the country were for work (40%), family (27%), retirement (19%), lifestyle (13%), and health (2%). The COVID-19 pandemic also changed the way people moved. More people wanted to move to less crowded places, lower-cost states, or closer to their families, according to the report.

In conclusion

According to a study from United Van Lines, Michigan was one of the states with the most outbound moves in 2023. Most of these moves were for work-related reasons. The national trends of migration were also talked about in the study. These trends were affected by things like the economy, the pandemic, and the quality of life. As people look for the best places to live, work, and retire, the study said that these trends might keep going.
