A Florida mom is accused of attempting to drown her “possessed, devil” toddler in the bathtub after the child knocked over a potted plant, according to arrest papers obtained by FOX 35 Orlando.
According to a press release from the Daytona Beach Police Department, Karina Mustafa, 29, was booked into Volusia County jail on a charge of severe child abuse arising from a June 7 incident.
According to authorities, at about 12:45 p.m. on June 7, Daytona Beach authorities responded to a report of a toddler nearly drowning. During the inquiry, detectives discovered that the disturbance was caused by the father finding the toddler unresponsive in the bathtub.
Further inquiry revealed that Mustafa was responsible for the near-drowning.

According to the arrest affidavit obtained by FOX 35 Orlando, the toddler was playing outside in front of the residence’s lawn when he knocked over some potted plants, leaving him coated in dirt and filthy water.
Mustafa then got into a disagreement with the toddler’s father after the mishap, prompting her to take the youngster and lock them in the bathroom together to reportedly clean up the mess.
According to arrest records, Mustafa immersed the toddler’s face in bathtub water before unlocking the door after the father discovered the child unconscious in the bathtub.
Officers said that the father was able to administer life-saving procedures and successfully revive the toddler, who was sent to a nearby hospital for further treatment.

During an interview with detectives, Mustafa admitted to slapping the child for twisting her fingers “and damaging her nails” and purposefully holding the toddler’s face down in the water, according to the affidavit.
According to the affidavit, Mustafa then claimed the child was “out of control” in terms of behavioral issues, which was negatively harming her relationship with the child’s father. According to authorities, Mustafa claimed the youngster was “possessed” and that “the diablo (Devil)” was present in the child’s life.
She is being held in the Volusia County Jail without bond.
