Formerly married to Prince Andrew, Ferguson is the mother of Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie of York. She, along with her daughters, has previously collaborated with the Teenage Cancer Trust. Princess Beatrice serves as the patron of the British Skin Foundation and has been actively involved with individuals affected by skin cancer.

The announcement of her diagnosis coincided with recent disclosures from the royal family regarding health concerns involving King Charles, who is undergoing treatment for an enlarged prostate, and Kate, Princess of Wales, who underwent abdominal surgery and was hospitalized.
