The ninth yearly Safest Cities study from the SafeWise Team is now out. The site looked through FBI crime statistics to make a list of the 50 best places in each state.
Now that the numbers are in, Danville has been named the safest city in California, with the lowest crime rate per person. In northern California, Danville is across the bay from San Francisco.
The town is in Contra Costa County’s San Ramon Valley, and 43,582 people lived there as of the 2020 census. The SafeWise study also found that 62% of Californians worry a lot about their safety every day.

This is 16% more than the same time last year and 23% more than the national average for daily worry. California was named second in the country for being most worried about property crime, fifth for being worried about package theft, and sixth for being worried about their general safety every day.
The study also found that only 22% of Californians say they feel safe in their state and that in 2021, 40% of them took more safety and security steps, which was the seventh-highest rate in the country.
