Operation Ceasefire aims to reduce crime in 13 of Virginia’s highest-crime cities. Lynchburg, Roanoke, Danville, and Martinsville are all included.
According to Attorney General Jason Miyares, just one year into the program, homicides are down 17%, rapes are down 10%, and robberies are down 3%. To present, Operation Ceasefire has prosecuted 155 cases, with 106 convictions and 41 pending trials.

In a press conference on Wednesday, Miyares stated that the keys to Operation Ceasefire are prevention, intervention, and tougher criminal prosecution. To present, Operation Ceasefire has prosecuted 155 cases, with 106 convictions and 41 pending trials.
He also stressed the necessity of assisting children at an early age so that they do not turn to gangs.
“You have to invest in young people as well, and also get the right information at the right time to the right people,” Miyares said in a statement.
Miyares and his staff have added warnings to YouTube videos that advocate gang involvement. The purpose is to inform them about the dangers of engaging in gun violence.
“It’s a 15-second video that’s attached to the diss video saying, listen, if you use a gun in the commission of a crime, it’s more time,” Miyares told CNN. ”
Leveraging that technology to pinpoint and get that messaging out, leave the gun at home, don’t use that to resolve the conflict.” The Attorney General stated that they will continue to harness all available resources and experiment to keep crime rates low.
