A 22-year-old lady from Kentucky was arrested over the weekend after police allegedly discovered her newborn baby dead and rotting in the trunk of her car.
Daira T. Mejia Aguilar was arrested on Saturday and charged with one count of abusing a corpse in connection with the infant’s death, according to papers examined by Law&Crime.
Officers from the Louisville Metro Police Department responded to a call at an apartment in the 700 block of Zorn Avenue around 8 p.m. on Saturday, July 6, following a complaint of a deceased baby being concealed inside the property, according to Louisville ABC affiliate WHAS.
According to Louisville Fox affiliate WDRB, the caller informed the 911 dispatcher that the kid had been “placed in a bag and hidden in a closet.”

When first responders arrived at the residence, they allegedly discovered a bag covered in flies and containing “possible blood” inside a closet.
Police also made touch with Mejia Aguilar at her house. When questioned about the baby’s whereabouts, she allegedly admitted to giving birth to a newborn on Tuesday, July 2.
After being formally arrested and read her Miranda rights, Mejia Aguilar allegedly admitted to not reporting the child’s death and storing the remains in her home.
“She stated that she then wrapped the baby in a blanket, placed it inside a trash bag, and placed the bag in the closet of the apartment,” according to the arrest citation. Meija Aguilar then allegedly indicated that she had “moved the baby to the trunk of her car” before the authorities arrived, according to WDRB.
On Sunday morning, investigators said they found the bones of a deceased newborn in the trunk of a car that Mejia Aguilar admitted belonged to her. Investigators described the baby, which was found wrapped in a blanket and thrown inside a trash bag, as “a full-term newborn in the early stages of decomposition,” according to WDRB.
Authorities did not reveal the victim’s gender.
Mejia Aguilar appeared in Jefferson County Court of Justice on Monday for her arraignment and pleaded not guilty, according to Lawandcrime. A judge eventually sentenced her to home confinement.
Louisville According to CBS station WLKY, investigators are awaiting the results of a planned autopsy to identify the cause of death and whether the deceased was stillborn, died during Mejia Aguilar’s labor, or died after birth.
Mejia Aguilar is set to appear in court again on July 16.
