Lincoln, IL – As leftovers of a tropical cyclone move toward the northeast, residents of Central Illinois should get ready for heavy rainfall beginning Thursday night. Areas close to and south of Interstate 70 may receive more than an inch of rain by Saturday morning.
There is a possibility of precipitation beginning as early as Thursday night and continuing through Sunday, as stated by the United States National Weather Service Central Illinois.
Southern Illinois continues to have the most potential for rain, with a sixty to seventy percent probability of at least one inch of precipitation, particularly in the vicinity of Interstates 70 and 55.
Residents of low-lying regions should continue to exercise caution in the event of flooding and should make preparations for slower travel during the peak rain hours.
Travel throughout the weekend may be impacted by the heavy rain that is forecast to fall south of Interstate 72 and the persistent showers that are likely to fall east of Interstate 55. Officials recommend staying informed by monitoring weather alerts and avoiding driving on routes that have been flooded.
