Oakland I-580 Crash Causes Lane Closure, Traffic Delays; Cause Under Investigation

According to the California Highway Patrol, a deadly solo vehicle crash on westbound I-580 in Oakland at Seminary Ave. stopped the right lane and off-ramp Tuesday afternoon.

Around 1 p.m., California Highway Patrol officers were dispatched to the scene of the incident. The right lane has since been reopened to traffic.

The Oakland CHP office X account wrote about the crash shortly before 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, stating that the Seminary off-ramp was closed due to an accident and that there was no projected time for reopening.

According to the CBS Traffic X account, the accident was tragic, and the freeway’s eastbound right lane was closed, with slow traffic going through the site.

Authorities have not revealed any information about the vehicle involved in the crash. According to the CHP, there is a lingering but moderate backlog until around High Street.

The cause of the crash is being investigated.
