The California Franchise Tax Board has outlined specific criteria for three essential programs: the California Earned Income Tax Credit (CalEITC), the Young Child Tax Credit (YCTC), as well as the Federal Earned Income Tax Credit.

California Earned Income Tax Credit (CalEITC)

Crafted to aid employed individuals or low-income families in California, the CalEITC program provides a maximum benefit of $3,529 for the tax year 2023.

Eligibility for the credit is limited to individuals with an annual income of $30,950 or below. To claim this credit, taxpayers can utilize the 2023 FTB 3514 form or follow the instructions provided by their electronic filing software.

Furthermore, those with incomes below $63,398 may qualify for potential financial benefits through the Federal EITC.

Another notable feature for the tax year 2023 is the Foster Youth Tax Credit (FYTC), offering eligible individuals a maximum of $1,117, while qualifying couples can receive up to $2,234.

To be eligible for FYTC, individuals must be current or former foster juveniles who were placed through the California foster care system at least 13 years of age.

To claim these credits and potentially qualify for the one-time tax rebate, taxpayers seeking the federal EITC must file both a state tax return and a federal return with the Internal Revenue Service.

It’s important to settle tax obligations in full by April 15 to avoid incurring penalties.

To be eligible for the YCTC in California, families must fulfill the following criteria: earned income of $30,931 or less, have a qualifying child under six years old at the conclusion of the tax year, and meet the eligibility requirements for CalEITC.
