Two state troopers hurt in frenetic chase on Interstate 86 near Pocatello head-on smash with suspect vehicle

An ISP vehicle was struck on Interstate 86 west of Pocatello while aiding the Power County Sheriff’s Office with a pursuit.

Deputies from the Power County Sheriff’s Office pursued a 2002 Dodge Grand Caravan that fled from a traffic stop on Interstate 86 at 6:18 p.m. tonight. As the Caravan avoided deputies, law enforcement responded to aid.

During the chase, the Caravan went westbound in the eastbound lanes, colliding with several automobiles. The Caravan then turned eastbound in the westbound lanes, colliding head-on with an ISP trooper’s car near mile marker 52.

The driver of the Caravan, a 35-year-old Pocatello woman, was detained without incident.

The motorist and two ISP troopers were sent to a nearby hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. Other injuries were recorded, but no one else was sent to the hospital.

The inquiry is being handled by the Pocatello Police Department.

Interstate 86’s westbound lanes are no longer closed.
