Deputies say the main suspect, Yefry Aguilar Rubio, who is 18 years old, turned 18 the same month as the crime, but he was only 17 at the time.

According to investigators, Aguilar Rubio’s 17-year-old girlfriend and her 16-year-old brother were also involved in the murder.

Investigators from the sheriff’s office say that troubling evidence showed that Aguilar Rubio and his girlfriend had been talking about hurting Iquite since June 2023.

The suspects are said to have led the victim from Redwood City, where everyone involved lived, to San Leandro, where the fatal event took place.

With help from the Redwood City Police Department, agents searched and arrested the suspects at their Redwood City homes on December 13, 2023.

The girlfriend and brother of Aguilar Rubio were caught, and proof of the murder was found.

The Fremont Police Department was also very important to the case. They helped serve a search warrant at a home in Fremont that the suspects had been to before and after Iquite’s murder.

The sheriff’s office said that detectives found proof of a large-scale identity theft and fraud operation inside the home.

Aguilar Rubio was already in jail in San Mateo County for a different crime when he was arrested.

The case has been sent to the District Attorney’s Office to be charged with murder, plot, and carjacking.

The Alameda County Sheriff’s Office has asked the District Attorney’s Office to follow Proposition 57 and Welfare and Institutions Code 707 and file a move with the juvenile court so that all three suspects in this horrible crime could be tried as adults.
