Sunday Night’s Rain Turning Into A Wintry Mix With Snow Showers In The Mountains

According to Storm Team 11, cold air will move into the area this evening, turning rain showers that are still going on into snow, especially in the mountains. The evening low will be 30 degrees, and it will rain and snow showers.

The Western North Carolina Mountains are under a wind advisory. Winds of 15 to 30 mph, with gusts up to 50 mph, could hit these places. There will be wind advisories until Monday at noon.

There are winter storm warnings out for the Northeast Tennessee Mountains. Multiple inches of snow will fall in places that are at or above 3,500 feet above sea level from Sunday evening through Sunday night and into Monday morning. Be very careful when moving because the roads will be slippery. It’s going to snow Monday afternoon, so these Winter Storm Warnings will stay in place until then.

Folks in Wise and Grayson Counties in Southwest Virginia, Letcher County in Eastern Kentucky, and Counties in the Western North Carolina Mountains are all being warned about winter weather. In these areas, winter weather is forecast, which could make the roads slippery, so be careful when you drive. These warnings will stay in place until Monday afternoon at 1 p.m.

Up until Monday afternoon, there may be light snow and snow flakes. Mountainous parts of northeast Tennessee and western North Carolina, as well as higher parts of southwest Virginia and eastern Kentucky, will have the best chance of getting snow. It’s likely to snow at some point. The Tri-Cities will have a high of 42 degrees on Monday, while the mountains will have highs in the mid to upper 30s. The sky will clear up in the late afternoon and evening.

At this point, it looks like the higher regions of Southwest Virginia, Eastern Kentucky, Northeast Tennessee, and North Carolina will get between 1 and 3 inches of snow. At peaks of 3,500 feet or more, there might be one to three inches of snow. The Tri-Cities might get a few snowflakes, but it won’t get really snowy during this event.

The weather for next Sunday will be mostly sunny, with a high of 41 degrees.
