Late last month, a pregnant newlywed went missing from the United States Army barracks where she lived in Hawaii. Her army spouse has been detained in connection with her disappearance.

Mischa Mabeline Kaalohilani Johnson, 19, was last seen on the night of July 31 inside her Schofield Barracks house on Oahu, according to the Army Criminal Investigation Division. She was reported missing the very following day, August 1.

On Monday, her 28-year-old husband was detained.

“[A]n individual has been placed into military custody in the Mischa Johnson missing person case,” the Army’s 25th Infantry Division said in an amended news statement earlier this week. “Mischa Johnson’s husband, Private First Class Dewayne Arthur Johnson II, is currently in military pretrial confinement in Hawaii.”

The cause for Dewayne Johnson’s arrest, however, is unknown.

Authorities described the missing lady as 5’2″ and weighing around 170 pounds, with a huge dragon tattoo on her back. She is of Filipino origin and was six months pregnant when she disappeared.

Despite the arrest of her husband, Army investigators said they “remain focused on locating Mischa, providing support to her family, and ensuring the safety and security of all personnel at U.S. Army Hawaii installations.”

There is a $10,000 prize for information on the case.

The latest development has stunned the supposed victim’s family, but they are still hopeful despite the husband’s detention.

“She is a loving housewife, she’s an amazing sister,” Mischa Johnson’s sister told Honolulu ABC station KITV. “In whatever condition she’s in we just want her to be home.”

Family members said that the Johnson pair, who married in November 2023, is still in the process of settling in.

“They were very affectionate with each other.” PDA levels are through the sky,” the missing woman’s sister added. I mean, they were all over each other. It’s quite troubling that he’s the primary suspect.”

According to Mischa Johnson’s sister, the couple showed no evidence of marital conflict.

The Army characterized the husband in these terms:

PFC Johnson, from Frederick, Maryland, enlisted in the United States Army and attended one station unit training at Fort Moore, Georgia in November 2022. He was assigned to 25th Infantry Division in June of 2023 and serves as a Cavalry Scout (MOS 19D).

While Dewayne Johnson is detained, this does not necessarily imply that he has been charged with a crime.

According to HuffPost, Mischa Johnson’s sister stated on Instagram that the missing lady left all of her personal belongings at home, including her wallet and cellular phone.

In a Facebook post, her mother allegedly accused Dewayne Johnson of no longer assisting in the hunt for his wife.

“She was so excited about being pregnant,” her sister told Law&crime. “I’m pregnant as well, so we were excited to be on this journey together.”

Law&Crime contacted the Army’s Criminal Investigation Division for more information on this article but received no answer by the time of publishing.
