Governor Glenn Youngkin of Virginia has declared that the distribution of rebate checks will commence this week in the state.
Simultaneously, the governor has unveiled a website aimed at assisting taxpayers in Virginia to verify their eligibility for tax rebates, with potential amounts reaching up to $400.
Commencing Wednesday, taxpayers can visit the Department of Taxation’s website to ascertain their eligibility for tax rebates in Virginia, as stated in a press release by Governor Youngkin on Tuesday.
Additionally, the governor emphasized that the issuance of rebate checks will initiate this week. The distribution of rebate funds in Virginia will follow a staggered schedule, with some taxpayers anticipated to receive the funds within the next three weeks.
The majority of eligible taxpayers are expected to receive their rebate payments by November 7.
How to Qualify for Virginia Tax Rebate?
Eligible individual filers may receive a one-time tax rebate of up to $200, while couples filing jointly have the potential to obtain a rebate of up to $400.
Those who received their state tax refund through direct deposit this year are likely to have the rebate deposited into the same bank account, while others will receive the rebate via a paper check in the mail.
To qualify for the rebate, taxpayers must file their 2022 state return by November 1, 2023, and must have a 2022 tax liability.
The maximum rebate amount is $400 ($200 for individual filers), irrespective of whether taxpayers paid more in taxes during the previous year.
Although Virginia’s individual income tax filing deadline is May 1, there is an automatic 6-month extension for filing.
It is important to note that individuals receiving only Social Security, Disability, or Unemployment checks do not qualify for the rebate.
Additionally, individual filers with an adjusted gross income below $11,950 (below $23,900 for family filers) are ineligible for the rebate as they do not owe any taxes.
