Man From Patchogue Indicted for Allegedly Chopping Woman With Ax and Disposing of Remains

A Long Island man was charged with dismembering a woman’s body and allegedly disposing of the pieces at three different locations in Patchogue.

On Monday, Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney said that Gary Cowell, 72, of Patchogue, had been indicted for unlawful concealment of a human corpse and tampering with physical evidence for allegedly dismembering the corpse of a 56-year-old Patchogue lady.

“This defendant has been indicted on charges related to the alleged dismemberment of a deceased individual,” stated District Attorney Tierney. “I applaud the Suffolk County Police detectives for quickly locating the victim’s remains. The investigation into the cause of death continues.

We want to assure the victim’s family and the public that we will pursue justice through the correct legal channels.” According to the inquiry, on June 18, 2024, law enforcement was notified that a woman had gone missing and had not been seen since June 13.

Detectives spoke with Cowell, who was supposedly the last person to see the victim alive.

Following the interview, Cowell accompanied detectives who discovered the dismembered bones.

Detectives allegedly found an axe used to dismember the body, as well as other evidence at Cowell’s Patchogue home.

The inquiry is ongoing, and the medical examiner has not yet determined the cause of death.

Cowell is due back in court on July 25, 2024, and he is currently being held on a $1 million cash bond FOXNEWS reported.
