In Hawaii, a single-member household is eligible for a maximum payment of $538, a four-member household can receive up to $1,794, and an eight-member household may qualify for a maximum payment of $3,230.

Additionally, the program supplements an extra $404 to the food stamps payment for each additional household member.

Unique SNAP Limits: Hawaii, Alaska Stand Out

In August 2022, maximum allotments for all 50 states, Washington, D.C., Guam, and the Virgin Islands were increased, primarily attributed to cost-of-living adjustments. Hawaii witnessed a substantial increase in its maximum SNAP payments compared to those in 2020.

It’s noteworthy that Hawaii and Alaska have distinct maximum payment structures compared to the other 48 states.

Each month, SNAP benefits are reloaded onto an electronic benefit transfer card. These funds are designated for the purchase of healthy foods at authorized grocery stores, farmers markets, and select online retailers.

The allocated money is intended for the acquisition of groceries, snacks, fresh produce, seeds, and plants. Prohibited uses include the purchase of alcohol, tobacco products, vitamins, live animals, prepared foods, or any non-food household items.
