Last week, law enforcement apprehended a New Jersey resident, Kelvin Giron-Brand, on charges of orchestrating a fuel theft scheme at a Delaware gas station, resulting in the unlawful acquisition of over $1,700 worth of fuel.
Giron-Brand, 34, hailing from Paterson, allegedly employed a specialized device to manipulate a pump at a Wawa station in New Castle, enabling the dispensation of significant quantities of fuel at a substantially reduced cost, according to Delaware State Police.
Following a report of fuel theft at the Wawa, troopers arrived at the scene just after 3 p.m. on
Tuesday, discovering Giron-Brand at a pump with a white Ford van.
Series of Diesel Fuel Thefts Uncovered in Wawa Stations
Subsequent investigations revealed a pattern of diesel fuel thefts using similar devices installed on fuel pumps at multiple Wawa gas stations in the vicinity.
Law enforcement officials conducted an examination of the fuel pump utilized by Giron-Brand and uncovered one of these devices, as per reports. Additionally, authorities discovered multiple containers within Giron-Brand’s work van containing fuel valued at over $1,700. It was revealed that Giron-Brand had incurred a cost of less than $20 for the fuel due to the utilization of the manipulation device.
Following the aforementioned events, Giron-Brand was taken into custody without displaying any resistance.
He now confronts multiple charges, including but not limited to shoplifting in excess of $1,500, possession of burglary tools or instruments specifically designed for disabling security systems, and second-degree conspiracy.
Each of these charges carries the classification of felonies under the legal framework.
As of the present moment, Giron-Brand is being detained at the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution.
His release is contingent upon a secured bond amounting to $14,000. The legal proceedings surrounding these charges will progress in accordance with established protocols and judicial procedures.
