Data Specialist’s Visionary Work Nets National Recognition

Deb Sellers is in charge of all the data for thousands of kids and teachers that is stored in one system.

Sellers, a data training specialist for Wyoming Public Schools, said, “I like making people’s lives easier.” She is in charge of the method that Wyoming, Godwin Heights, Tri County Area Schools, Northview, and Kelloggsville use to store information about their students.

Wyoming Public Schools just got the eighth annual Partner for Life Award from Edupoint, along with a $10,000 grant that they can spend however they like at the Synergy Connect Users Conference in Orlando, Florida. Every year, only one area out of more than 6,500 across the country is chosen for the award.

Sellers is in charge of state reports and works with the IT teams of other districts through Edupoint, the company that owns the Synergy Education Platform for K–12 student information and learning management. With Studentvue, Parentvue, and Teachervue, you can see grades, emails, conference information, attendance, and other information.

Sellers and programmer Chris Goron work on it all the time to make sure it’s always up to date. They often work directly with the company to make sure everything runs as easily as possible.

Godwin Heights, Tri-County, and Wyoming all started utilizing Synergy in the 2012–2013 academic year.

According to Sellers, “Our district is almost 90% paperless, and we have this system because of the resources and tools we have available to us, which naturally saves time, energy, and money.”

Craig Hoekstra, the superintendent, described Sellers as “a champion” of Synergy.

He stated, “She puts in a lot of effort to meet needs and is always looking for ways to improve the system so that everyone who uses it has the best experience possible.” Deb is a solution-oriented individual who constantly goes above and above, and I am happy to have her on the Wyoming team.

Sellers have spent 34 years of employment in the district. In addition, she held multiple terms of office on the Kelloggsville Board of Education.
