Speaking during a press interaction in Bahrain, Blinken emphasized that the United States has conveyed a clear message to over 20 other nations about the potential consequences if the attacks persist, as witnessed on the previous day.

Blinken refrained from providing specific details in advance, stating, “I’m not going to telegraph or preview anything that might happen.”

The warning is prompted by the relentless activities of the Houthi group, backed by Iran and based in Yemen, which shows no signs of de-escalation, raising concerns about the possibility of a regional escalation.

The backdrop to Blinken’s statement includes a recent incident on Tuesday where the US Navy intercepted and neutralized 21 Houthi missiles and drones launched from Yemen, marking one of the most significant Houthi attacks in the Red Sea in recent months.

Recent Houthi Attacks Disrupt Global Trade

The Houthis have recently conducted numerous attacks and seized a commercial vessel along with its crew, citing retaliation for the Israeli conflict with Hamas in Gaza

These attacks have already impacted the global economy by effectively closing a major trade route for most container ships.

In recent weeks, there have been multiple indications that the US is contemplating more decisive military action in response to the Houthi attacks, despite ongoing attempts to establish backchannel communication with Iran and the Houthis to encourage de-escalation.
