A shopper is curious about the challenges Target is facing in serving customers at some of their Southern California locations, where self-checkout kiosks were closed and cashiers were scarce.

Elizabeth Ryan, a customer, expressed frustration towards Target in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on February 21, questioning the situation in their stores.

Every location I’ve visited in Southern California over the past month has been a nightmare to check out, she noted.

There are over 20 people waiting in line, with insufficient staff manning the checkouts and the self-service option unavailable? This is absolute chaos, she added.

One of the store chain’s X accounts @AskTarget promptly addressed Ryan’s concerns on social media yesterday and today.

The company asked Ryan to specify the exact Target locations where she had these problematic self-checkout experiences.

She mentioned that it was at the Target on Bellflower in Long Beach yesterday, in a message this morning.

Last week, the incident occurred at the Target on Seal Beach Blvd in Seal Beach, and two weeks ago, it was at the Target in Carson on Avalon.

The @AskTarget X account responded by stating that the company will ‘address the ongoing issues.’ The store leadership team will handle the situation, assured @AskTarget.

Ryan expressed his frustration on social media following the early closure of self-checkout stations at a Target store in Illinois.

An employee from the Illinois store informed Business Insider (BI) earlier this month that the self-checkout stations shut down at 8:00 pm.

Additional Target employees in Oklahoma and Michigan have also confirmed to BI that their stores have not implemented that change yet.

Nevertheless, employees in both states are concerned about having sufficient staff to cover all lanes and prevent customers from facing long wait times.

“If and when we have to close the self-checkouts in the morning and in the evening, we’re going to have a lot of people extremely upset with us,” the worker from Michigan expressed.

The retail chain is currently testing a new policy at select stores that restricts self-checkout lanes to 10 items or fewer.

According to a spokesperson for The US Sun, the policy was created to reduce wait times and cater to guest preferences.

Regrettably, according to feedback from other X users, the concerns about lengthy checkout lines at Target still require attention.
