MONTGOMERY, AL. – Gov. Kay Ivey recently gave $1.7 million to groups that help Alabamans with low incomes become financially independent.
The funds will be given to 18 community action groups across Alabama through Community Services Block Grants. These groups help people all over the state.
“People need a hand to help them get back on their feet when they are having a bad time,” Ivey said in a statement.
“These organizations help people in distress with their immediate needs and also set them on the path to long-term success.” I’m happy to give these grants to these worthwhile projects to help them.
The groups help people find jobs, give budget-friendly skill-building programs, help with school, make sure people have safe housing, and provide food and health services.
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services gave the funds to the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs, which will manage them.
Ken Boswell, Director of ADECA, said, “The goal of these programs is to give low-income residents the tools they need to support themselves now and in the future.” “ADECA is happy to support these agencies and the wide range of services they offer, just like Gov. Ivey.”
