MIAMI – A lady is fighting for her life in the hospital after being stabbed “multiple times” and nearly thrown over a balcony in an unprovoked attack at Miami International Airport late Saturday night, authorities said.

Uniformed cops were dispatched to Terminal J’s International Arrivals section shortly after 11:30 p.m. to investigate a stabbing.

Miami-Dade Police said early Sunday morning that the lady and a male, 29-year-old Alexander Love, were on the fourth floor of the airport when he “attacked her by stabbing her multiple times and attempted to throw her over the railing.”

According to authorities, the woman managed to flee Love and rushed downstairs to the third floor, where officers discovered her. Additional responding officers apprehended Love on the fourth story and retrieved the weapon. There were no charges announced as of publication.

According to a video shared with CBS News Miami, the woman was bleeding while seated in the airport terminal waiting area. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue responded and sent the victim to the JMH Ryder Trauma Center in critical condition.

A witness told CBS News Miami that numerous flights were coming when the incident occurred, and others either attempted to assist the woman or fled the terminal.

“We heard an escalation of a fight,” the witness reported. “And someone said ‘Run!'” So, you had a line of 100 to 200 people since we had just gotten off the plane.”

Many people who were present at the time of the incident expressed surprise that it occurred in such a packed area of the airport.

“There were a lot of people saying how it was really scary telling their kids to pick up their stuff and everyone was running,” another witness told CBS News Miami.

The airport briefly suspended services in the area during the incident and evacuated Terminals J and H, but has since resumed normal operations, according to Miami-Dade Police Detective Angel Rodriguez of CBS News Miami.

“There were people that were conducting business in the airport while this happened,” he informed me. “And so, it’s expected that it can create some sort of chaos.”

MIA also released a statement on X on the event, stating that the situation at the terminal was “under control.”

“We want to assure the public that the situation is under control and the safety of our passengers, staff, and visitors remains our top priority,” according to MIA. “Authorities responded immediately, and the situation was swiftly contained.”

Meanwhile, cops received reports of an active shooter on the location, but after additional examination, they determined that this was not the case.

Detectives are presently speaking with Love, who remains in detention, as the investigation proceeds. Police have not recognized the lady or provided additional information about the stabbing.
