A woman filed her plea nearly three years after her niece and nephew were discovered deceased in the trunk of her vehicle.
According to Baltimore County court records, Nicole Johnson entered a guilty plea to two counts of first-degree child maltreatment that resulted in death.
In 2021, News Center 7 reported that Maryland police conducted a routine traffic stop on the vehicle Johnson was operating on July 28, 2021, and detected an unpleasant odor emanating from the vehicle.
The bodies of Joshlyn Marie James Johnson, 7, and Larry Darnell O’Neil III, 5, were ultimately discovered in the trunk of the vehicle by the officers.
When the autopsy was conducted, the 7-year-old daughter weighed 18 pounds and the 5-year-old boy weighed 21 pounds.
Dayton was the residence of the two children until approximately 2019 when their mother relocated to Maryland. The grandmother of Larry, LaQuata O’Neil, gave an interview to News Center 7 in 2021.
Nicole was promptly requested by the children’s mother to provide care for the children upon their arrival in Baltimore.
“Occasionally, I am unable to talk.” “It is so dreadful,” LaQuata exclaimed.
A social media post was the sole cause of her world collapsing.
“I learned about the deaths of these children through Facebook, where she had a GoFundMe page,” LaQuata previously stated to News Center 7.
Nicole is scheduled to be sentenced on January 28.
