A woman who crashed her car was discovered dead days later, a quarter-mile away from the scene of the accident, according to Indiana investigators.

Deputies in Wayne County have been searching for Lorena Scott, 59, since she crashed her Chevrolet Malibu on November 30, according to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators found her vehicle, which had been involved in a single-vehicle crash, but it was unoccupied.

According to the sheriff, multiple officers and a drone crew searched for Scott, and the search was expanded and increased when the initial search yielded no results.

On Dec. 3, crews discovered Scott’s corpse “in a creek adjacent to a large culvert,” according to a news release. The body was discovered about a quarter-mile from where she crashed her automobile.

The reason for death is unknown, but investigators do not suspect foul play.

“We extend our deepest condolences to Mrs. Scott’s family and loved ones during this difficult time,” the sheriff’s office stated.

Wayne County is about 65 miles east of Indianapolis.
