There are so many frauds these days that it’s difficult to keep up. Unfortunately, Coloradans are being duped once again.

Scams abound, ranging from counterfeit company communications to fraudulent court summonses and even wealthy princes claiming to wish to give you money out of kindness.

There has been relatively recent fraud in Colorado. You’ve probably already gotten it.

Who is This? Newest Colorado Scam

You may have received unusual texts from known numbers, asking if you were a specific individual.

Looking through my SMS messages, I received:

  • Hello, Is this Lindsey?
  • Hey, Brian! It’s been a long time since we talked.
  • Hello, I’m trying to reach Tyler. Is that him?
  • Well, my name is Tanner. The last one was rather close.

The Scam in Colorado Explained

The occurrence is known as the wrong-number scam. According to RoboKiller, the procedures are to obtain your phone number, chat, build a friendship, and then discover a means to steal from you.

According to RoboKiller, one typical approach is to move the chat to another app. The fraudster will then transmit malware as an attachment, which is not feasible on iMessage.

This is not like conventional text message fraud. Typical scams will attempt to persuade you to click on a link instantly. These scammers devote more time and effort to defraud you.

What to Do If You Receive A Text Like This

It would be best if you started by doing nothing. You read it accurately. You should avoid responding to random texts. In addition, I recommend reporting the scam text to the Federal Trade Commission.

Here is where you can report it.
