Virginia McCullough, 36, admitted to killing her father, John McCullough, 70, and Lois McCullough, 71, between June 17, 2019 and June 20, 2019, at their house in Pump Hill, Great Baddow, as she appeared in Chelmsford Crown Court via prison video-link on Thursday (July 4).

After the murders, she hid the victims’ remains on the property and continued to live there. To cover her tracks, she informed doctors and relatives repeatedly that her parents were ill, on vacation, or gone on long journeys. Her actions were revealed after her parents’ GPs expressed concern over missed appointments in 2023.

Following an investigation, Essex Police executed a warrant at the Pump Hill address on September 15. She later admitted to poisoning her father with prescription drugs and stabbed her mother soon after. McCullough will be sentenced on October 10.

Judge Christopher Morgan stated, “You will understand that there is a single sentence that can be imposed on you in these circumstances. However, consideration must be given to the minimal term.”

“The investigation revolves around John and Lois, as well as their entire family. Virginia’s actions have had a major and emotional impact on the family unit, and our thoughts today are primarily with them.

“We worked closely with and supported them from the beginning as we investigated the circumstances surrounding John and Lois’ deaths and acquired the information that led to today’s guilty pleas. This was an extremely complicated study from the beginning as per nationalworld.

“Officers were faced with an extremely difficult scene and worked at the address for several days to conduct forensic investigations. This required knowledge and insight from multiple units across the force, and it is only through the efforts of hundreds of devoted officers and staff that we were able to bring this horrific case to court and, now, an acceptable conviction.”
