Starting in two days, low-income residents residing in Boulder, Colorado, will have the opportunity to apply for a food tax rebate provided by the city.
Boulder initiated this program in 1967 with the aim of alleviating the financial strain on lower-income community members caused by city sales tax on food items.
Eligibility Criteria for Boulder Rebate Program
Residents can submit their applications for the rebate starting this Friday until June 30.
Eligible residents for the rebate encompass individuals with disabilities, those aged 62 or older, and families with children under 18 throughout the entirety of 2023.
Additional prerequisites for applicants include proof of residency in Boulder for the duration of the year and meeting specific financial criteria.
Income-Based Criteria for Boulder Rebate Program
Financial criteria are based on the applicant’s income in 2023, with the maximum allowable amount contingent on the family size.
For instance, the maximum income for an individual is $46,500, while for a two-person family, it is $53,150, and for a four-person family, it stands at $66,400.

Individual residents eligible for the rebate will receive $104, while families will receive $318.
Both figures represent increases from the amounts distributed in 2023.
In the previous year, Boulder authorities processed and approved 1,093 out of 1,241 applications submitted for the rebate program.
City data reveal that 679 rebates were allocated to elderly individuals, 267 were designated for families, and the remaining 147 were disbursed to individuals with disabilities.
According to city records, a total of $162,000 in rebate payments was distributed to eligible residents in Boulder during the preceding year.
