Two-year-old Shot and Killed After Finding Father’s Gun; Father Charged With Child Cruelty

A two-year-old boy died in an accidental shooting, and his father is now facing charges, according to Georgia police.

Officers responded to shots fired at a home in the Candler-McAfee neighborhood near Decatur around 5:40 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 2, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, citing DeKalb County police.

According to WAGA, investigators believe the youngster spotted his father’s abandoned gun, picked it up, and shot himself inadvertently.

According to authorities, he was rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries and died later.

On October 3, McClatchy News requested more information from the DeKalb County Police Department and waited for a response.

According to miamiherald, Michael Labiran, 39, the boy’s father, has been charged with criminal homicide and child cruelty.

Labiran remained in the Dekalb County Jail as of Oct. 3, according to online records.

Additional information was not readily available.

Decatur is about 10 miles northeast of downtown Atlanta.
