Two teenagers were fatally shot in Chicago’s Back of the Yards neighborhood on Saturday, one of five people slain by gunfire over the weekend.
The Chicago Police Department said that 48 people were shot in 31 separate incidents between Friday and Sunday evenings.
The two boys, ages 15 and 17, were fatally shot in the 4800 block of South Winchester Avenue just after 6 p.m. Saturday. They were near the front of a house in that neighborhood when an unknown car approached and someone inside fired rounds, striking both teenagers. They were both hospitalized in critical condition but later died from their injuries.
A 28-year-old male was fatally shot in the 1300 block of South Harding Avenue around 2:30 a.m. on Saturday. Officers on the scene discovered the victim with multiple gunshot wounds. He was brought to a local hospital and pronounced dead.

A 33-year-old man was slain in the 1600 Block of North Laramie Avenue around 8:15 p.m. on Saturday. He was standing outside when an unidentified man got out of a black automobile and started firing at him, hitting him twice. He later died at a nearby hospital.
A 39-year-old man was killed, and three people were injured, in the 2100 block of South Canal Street around 3 a.m. on Sunday. According to police, a group of guys were standing outdoors in that location when they became involved in a verbal altercation with another group. The disagreement became physical before someone opened fire.
The 39-year-old victim was pronounced deceased on the spot. Three more people were hospitalized, including a 27-year-old male who was classified in critical condition.
