Two Injured in Attack by Masked Men After High School Graduation at Hofstra University

Two people suffered injuries when five masked men attacked them following a high school graduation ceremony in New York on Wednesday, slicing one in the ear and another in the leg, according to officials.

The attack occurred outside a sports complex at Hofstra University on Long Island, while graduates from Hempstead and Uniondale high schools were leaving the facility with their families, according to a statement issued on behalf of the schools. According to the statement, the guy sliced in the leg was a visitor of a student. The student intervened and was sliced in the ear, according to the statement.

Both patients were transported to a hospital. Their conditions were not immediately known.

Nassau County police said they responded to a complaint of a possible assault on the Hofstra campus at 4:20 p.m. It was not immediately known if any suspects had been arrested.

The attack is thought to be related to a domestic quarrel, and everyone who attended the event went through magnetometers, according to the schools’ statement.

According to nbcnews “We underscore that this incident took place outside of the graduation venue,” according to the statement. “Our security team is cooperating with Nassau County Police and Hofstra Public safety officers.”

A Hofstra University representative confirmed the campus was secure and referred any further queries to police.
