A 37-year-old man was tragically shot after approaching “suspicious” people on his Houston street, leaving behind his two children and wife, who is eight months pregnant, according to police.
According to Houston police, the incident began on August 10 at 12.30 a.m. when the spouse, later named Osvaldo Casas, encountered “suspicious person(s) on his street”.
According to KHOU11, the family reported one of their cars being vandalized the night before, and they observed a black SUV in the neighborhood. According to the outlet, the next night, a neighbor reported to police that a black vehicle was driving slowly through the neighborhood.
Casas approached the strange car, and shots were fired. He was hit several times and fell. His wife, Judith Molina, who is scheduled to give birth to a newborn boy next month, hurried up to him and attempted CPR, Fox 26 stated.
“I did it for about 10 minutes until the cops arrived and took over, but by then I knew he had left. “I knew he had left,” Molina told the site.
“She tried to give him CPR, but he died in her hands,” Casas’ mother, Blanca Aguirre, told KHOU11.
Molina’s GoFundMe page stated that Casas died “bravely protecting our family.” He leaves behind two children, ages 16 and eight, as well as the couple’s newborn kid. Molina remembered her late spouse as “a man of deep love and kindness.”
The fundraiser raised more than $14,000 on Tuesday.
There were no arrests made in connection with the incident.
