There was a disagreement between Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis and a prosecutor on the case, but she said that this did not stop or slow down her office’s pursuit of Donald Trump for trying to get Georgia state officials to change the results of the 2020 election.
Speaking to a CNN reporter on Saturday, Ms. Willis said that even though outside forces were trying to slow down the case, her office had kept working on it throughout the recent proceedings to see if Ms. Willis had a conflict of interest because she was dating a prosecutor on her team. The judge said there wasn’t, but the case went to court for several weeks.
It was asked if the report had slowed down the prosecution in any way. She said, “No, my team has been continuing to work.”
“We were still working on the case the way it needed to be worked on while that was going on,” the district attorney said. “I don’t think we’ve slowed down at all.” There are probably measures to slow this train down, but it’s still coming.
After failing over and over to stop or get rid of the charges against him in Georgia, Mr. Trump has continued to lash out at Ms. Willis and her team. Since he was president, he would not be able to get out of the case by pardoning it. There is also a good chance that the former president will go to jail because of the required minimum sentence for racketeering.
The former president, who has been impeached twice, is being charged with 91 felonies in four different cases. The Georgia charges are just one of them. He is being charged with crimes connected to his efforts to stop Joe Biden’s election victory from being recognized. The other case is in Washington, DC.
A few charges against Mr. Trump and his friends were dropped earlier this month, which was a small setback for Ms. Willis’s case. However, the main parts of her case are still going strong. The court rules also say that those charges can be brought again.
The former president is once again likely to be his party’s presidential candidate. He will run against Vice President Biden again in the fall. During parts of his campaign against Mr. Biden, he will almost certainly be in court. This week, a court in New York set April as the date for jury selection in his criminal hush money trial.
