A Texas woman arrested for attempting to drown a three-year-old girl and injuring her six-year-old brother has been legally prosecuted after being accused of abusing the children because they were Muslim.

A Tarrant County grand jury indicted Elizabeth Wolf, 42, on charges of attempted capital murder and causing bodily harm to a child in connection with her May attacks on the children, according to Fox 4.

The indictment also included a hate crime enhancement, which stated that Wolf targeted the children because they were “Muslims or persons of Middle Eastern descent.”

If she is found guilty of the hate crime enhancement, she may face a longer term.

Wolf was allegedly inebriated at an apartment pool in Euless, Texas, on May 19 when she shouted racial remarks and approached a Palestinian mother wearing a headscarf and her two children, according to Fox 4.

The 32-year-old lady told police Wolf approached her and inquired where she was from and if the two children playing in the pool belonged to her. When she replied yes, Wolf grabbed her six-year-old son, yanked him away from her, and scratched him, according to authorities.

Then, while the mom was assisting her son, Wolf allegedly grabbed her three-year-old daughter and forced her underneath in the pool.

According to police, both youngsters have physically recovered.

Wolf remains in Tarrant County Jail on a $1 million bail.
