People in Texas love Buc-ee’s for a variety of reasons. However, using kids’ plush toys to conceal drugs is rarely one of them. Such was the case when a man was arrested in the Lone Star State when investigators discovered a cache of cocaine in his toys.
What exactly happened?
According to the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office, in the early hours of July 31st, a routine traffic stop on Interstate 10 westbound around mile marker 664 turned unexpectedly when law officers discovered an unusual drug smuggling situation.
At about 1:10 a.m., Deputy Cody Williams stopped 47-year-old Lugene Davis Jr. in San Antonio. What began as a routine operation soon escalated after an agreed car search yielded an unexpected result.
Stuffed Beavers
During the search, Deputy Williams discovered a strong stench of “devil’s lettuce” (marijuana) coming from the vehicle. As the deputy examined in the rear seat, he noticed some Buc-ee’s beaver plushies that appeared to have been recently re-stitched.
Upon additional inspection, the deputy discovered bundles within the stuffed animals, which raised his suspicions. He carefully opened the plush toys and discovered that they contained more than two pounds of marijuana and ecstasy pills.
The driver subsequently complained of chest symptoms and was sent to a hospital. Later, he was apprehended and charged.
From hiding narcotics in everyday items such as teddy animals to using complex concealment techniques, it only goes to show how creative people can be when it comes to drug hiding. Meanwhile, law enforcement stays alert, altering its techniques to combat the changing ways that drugs are trafficked.
