Family members and police pleaded for assistance Monday in locating a newborn infant with a heart issue and her young mother, who went missing Sunday in the East Los Angeles region.

Amoria Brown, 14, and her three-week-old daughter Omoria were last seen around 9 p.m. on Sunday in the 5200 block of East Huntington Drive. They were believed to be headed to the high desert north of Los Angeles with family, according to an LAPD news release that included images of the missing girl.

“It’s just a lot right now; trying to take it all in, trying to process it,” said Amoria’s guardian, Raquel Brown. “I just want the baby to be okay. She’s not a bad mother. I am not going to say she is bad. She’s young. I don’t expect her to change overnight, and I want to make that plain, but I’m here to help.”

According to Raquel, the girl called her family to let them know she and the baby were well. Their whereabouts are unknown, but relatives assume she is headed for the High Desert.

When authorities first issued a notice of the disappearance, it included a missing 15-year-old girl who was identified as Brown’s sister-in-law. Her family reports that she has since reconnected with her relatives.
