Suspected Wood County Shooter Captured in Harrison County After Vienna Woman Found Dead

A man who is suspected of shooting a woman in Wood County the previous Saturday has been taken into custody in Harrison County.

A woman was discovered dead from what seemed to be a gunshot wound at an apartment on 19th Street in Vienna, which is located in the Parkersburg neighborhood, according to a press statement issued by the Vienna Police Department.

A family member discovered the body of the deceased on July 20 at approximately four o’clock in the afternoon. According to the authorities, the victim was identified as Morgan Lee Lott (Stutler), who was 22 years old. The identification of Hearl Collins, age 31, as the suspect in the case was made possible by the collection of information from the murder scene and witnesses.

The warrant for Collins’s arrest was issued for the charge of murder in the first degree. As a result of their collaboration with the United States Marshals Service and the West Virginia State Police, officers from Vienna discovered that Collins was on a property located in Harrison County.

On Sunday, July 21, at approximately nine o’clock in the morning, members of the Harrison County SWAT team arrested Collins at a residence in Stonewood. The arrest was made without any incident.

Following the autopsy that was performed on Lott’s body, Collins was charged with first-degree murder. The body was taken to the West Virginia Medical Examiner’s Office.
