South Carolina Man Dies After Attempting Fireworks Stunt at July 4th Party

At a Fourth of July party on Thursday night, a guy from South Carolina was killed when he attempted to “show off” with pyrotechnics.

At 10:23 p.m., Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded at a neighborhood block party in Summerville. When they arrived, they discovered a guy lying on the highway, suffering from severe head injuries.

Witnesses informed deputies that the injuries were the result of an accident using fireworks. It was eventually determined by the coroner that the victim, identified as Allen Ray McGrew, who was 41 years old, had set off a big firework on top of his head. He was wearing a large top hat, according to witnesses, and he placed the fireworks on top of the hat before lighting them. This information was provided to investigators. “Massive head injuries” were caused as a result of the gadget exploding.

A medical examiner pronounced McGrew dead at the scene.
