One person was taken into custody, and another person was killed, as a result of a shooting that occurred on July 4 in Smith County.
Deputies were dispatched to the 3700 block of Hwy, 271 N., near Tyler, on Thursday evening at approximately 10:45 p.m., according to the Smith County Sheriff’s Office. The first information that dispatch received was that a victim of a shooting was at a hospital in Tyler.
After arriving at the hospital as well as the location of the murder, investigators from Smith County discovered that three companions were driving a vehicle down Old Gladewater Highway when they reached a dead end. Once they had completed their turn and were heading back toward Highway 271, they drove behind Bautista Auto Sales. Rawly Sanchez, 19, was identified as the backseat passenger who was shot in the back of the head. According to the officials, many gunshots were heard as they passed.
Sanchez was transported to the hospital by the other two people who were in the truck, but he did not survive his stay there.
According to the findings of the investigation, the suspect is Seferino Bautista-Renteria, who is 35 years old and the proprietor of Bautista Auto Sales. He was temporarily detained at his residence as authorities carried out search warrants at both his residence and his place of business as per CBS19.
After that, Bautista-Renteria was taken into custody for the crime of murder and transferred to the Smith County Jail on a bond of one million dollars.
To conduct an autopsy on Sanchez’s body, it was sent to Dallas.
