One of the mysteries that surrounded a skull that was found by a group of children in the mountains of Colorado six years ago has been partially answered thanks to an inquiry that was conducted using genealogical methods. The Clear Creek County Sheriff’s Office said this week that they have determined the identity of the person whose skull was found.

The individual in question was a man who was born in the 1950s and who had grown somewhat estranged from his family. It was David “Michael” Crady who shared his name.

The unsettling discovery was made on May 11, 2018, in the town of Lawson, which is situated in the northern region of Clear Creek County. A power pole was located close to where the children discovered the skull. One of its jaws was missing, and teeth fragments were discovered in the vicinity of the animal.

At this point, the investigators are hopeful that someone will assist them in determining how Crady passed away.

Following the discovery of the bones by the children, a forensic anthropologist examined the skull and verified that there was no indication of any kind of damage. Moreover, they came to the following conclusions:

The person in question was a man. It was quite some time since he had passed away (perhaps several years).

Approximately five years later, the Colorado Bureau of Investigation attempted to take the unresolved case forward by employing what the sheriff’s office referred to as an “advanced genealogy technique” in a press release. The DNA that had been extracted in 2018 was examined by their office, and they were ultimately successful in locating a match for it.

In the following step, they made contact with Crady’s relatives and requested that one or more members of the family produce a DNA sample. They did, and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) now asserts, with a level of accuracy of 99.99%, that it was Crady whose skull had been discovered all those years ago.

This day, October 4th, 1955, Crady was born. A photograph of him that was taken during his senior year in high school was made public by the sheriff’s office last week CBS News stated.

According to the personnel of the sheriff’s office, “the death investigation remains open,” as was written in the news release that they distributed on Wednesday. “There are no leads regarding the circumstances of Mr. Crady’s death or how the skull ended up at the discovery site.”
