According to police sources, a confrontation between rival groups of teenagers escalated into violence at a Bronx subway station on Monday, resulting in six individuals being shot, with one fatality.
The incident occurred on the northbound platform of the elevated Mount Eden Ave. station on Jerome Ave. near Mount Eden Ave. around 4:35 p.m., with numerous bystanders present.
Transit Chief Michael Kemper of the NYPD stated during a press briefing on Monday evening that the altercation began inside a train where the two groups of teenagers were engaged in a physical altercation.

Upon the train’s arrival at the station and the opening of its doors, gunfire erupted from at least one of the involved parties. As panicked passengers fled the train onto the platform, further shots were fired, as described by Kemper. Witness Efrain Feliciano, 61, recounted hearing at least six gunshots amidst the chaos.
Fatalities and Injuries in Bronx Subway Shooting
Sources report that a 28-year-old male sustained injuries to his right arm, a 29-year-old female was wounded in the facial and neck regions, a 15-year-old male was struck in the thigh and right ear, and a 14-year-old female suffered a gunshot wound to the foot.
Additionally, two men, aged 71 and 34, were also shot, although the exact locations of their injuries have not been definitively determined.
Tragically, the 34-year-old victim succumbed to his wounds.
According to police sources, the majority of the victims were innocent bystanders waiting on the platform for a train.
Witness Efrain Feliciano described witnessing the chaos unfold during the shooting, recalling seeing sparks as bullets struck the wall and a woman holding a child in distress.
He recounted the terror of the moment, with people scrambling in fear as bullets flew indiscriminately, emphasizing the unpredictability and danger of the situation.
Yanesa Ortega, who was on the street level below the station, witnessed the panic as shell casings fell from the elevated train and people desperately tried to flee.
She described the scene of chaos and terror as people screamed and rushed down the stairs to safety.
Police sources described the aftermath as chaotic, with officers collecting evidence and medical personnel attending to the wounded.
Surveillance Footage in Investigation
Assistant Chief Jerry O’Sullivan highlighted the swift response of officials, mentioning the retrieval of surveillance footage for investigation purposes.
According to police reports, all six victims were transported to nearby hospitals, where the 34-year-old man succumbed to his injuries.
However, the remaining victims were expected to recover from their wounds, highlighting the severity of the incident and its lasting impact on the community.
