Shocking October Crime in Fort Collins: Police Arrest Two Teen Suspects After Woman is Shot in Vehicle Incident

In a shocking turn of events this October, Fort Collins police apprehended two individuals tied to a crime that rocked northern Colorado.

The incident unfolded when a brave woman tried to prevent two suspects from breaking into her vehicle, parked just outside her home. Tragically, she was shot during the confrontation, sparking an intense investigation and raising questions about safety in the community.

According to the inquiry, investigators located and apprehended two minor male suspects. The victim told police that she was asleep at her home in southern Fort Collins at 1:20 a.m. on Oct. 21 when a family member woke her up and informed her of what was going on outside.

She said police raced outside to try to halt the break-in, and one of the males shot at her, one of which injured her in the leg. She reported the men fled before the police arrived. She was treated at the hospital and survived.

“It is undoubtedly disturbing to see youngsters engaging in these types of crimes, but I appreciate the Criminal Impact Unit’s hard work in conducting this investigation and identifying these suspects. The Criminal Impact Unit’s main priority is apprehending armed suspects, and their work makes our community safer,” said Assistant Chief Kristy Volesky, who leads the Fort Collins Police Criminal Investigations Division, in a statement.

According to police, the first suspect was detained on multiple charges, including attempted murder in the first degree, first-degree assault, first-degree criminal trespass to a vehicle, and tampering with physical evidence.

The second suspect was detained on multiple accusations, including accessory to a crime, aggravated robbery with a pistol, criminal attempt to commit a Class 3 and Class 4 felony, possession of a handgun by a juvenile, and first-degree criminal trespass to a vehicle.
